Stair Nose vs. Stair Tread Kit: Which Do You Need?
What Is a Stair Nose?
A stair nose is a trim piece that covers just the front edge (the nosing) of each stair tread. It wraps around the leading edge of the step and creates a clean, finished transition from your LVP floor to the staircase. The stair nose typically extends a few inches down the riser face as well, covering the gap between the tread and the riser below it.
Stair noses are the most common solution for finishing stairs when: - The stair treads are already solid wood, plywood, or existing LVP - You only need to update or match the front edge of each step - You want a quick, cost-effective finish
What Is a Stair Tread Kit?
A stair tread kit includes both the nosing piece and a full tread cover that runs the entire depth of the stair from the nosing to the back riser. The tread cover is essentially a piece of LVP flooring cut and finished to fit the stair tread surface.
Stair tread kits are the right choice when: - Your existing stair treads are worn, stained, or visually mismatched - You're converting from carpet to LVP and want to cover the entire tread - You want a completely unified look across the entire stair surface
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Stair Nose | Stair Tread Kit | |

Which One Should You Order?
Choose a stair nose if: - Your current stair treads are in good condition - You just need to finish the front edge to match your LVP floor - You want a faster, simpler installation
Choose a stair tread kit if: - Your current stair treads are worn, dirty, or visually inconsistent - You are removing carpet from stairs and want full coverage - You want every surface of the stair — tread and nosing — to match your floor
